Dave and Jill's Visit

This weekend our good friends Dave and Jill came to visit from Virginia. Brett and Dave have been friends since college. We haven't all been together since their wedding last July! They also hadn't seen Caroline since she was 3 months old when we moved from Virginia. Caroline was very excited to have more visitors in the house this weekend and I think she is starting to get the idea that when visitors arrive without additional children in tow, it means a lot more attention for her!
Even though the weather did not cooperate this weekend, we still had a great time. Jill and Dave brought Caroline a bubble machine that she loved. She was so excited when Jill showed her how to use it, that she tried to fill it up on her own and actually ended up taking a "bubble bath"! I think Jill and Dave will be happy to be home and not have to play with bubbles anytime soon.
Caroline is also figuring out that when Mommy or Daddy says, "No!" and there are other visitors in the house that she can run to the visitors and bury her head in their laps and cry, hoping that she will be saved! It didn't really work for her though, although she never gave up trying to get Dave and Jill (mostly Jill) to give her what she wanted! Don't get me wrong; she definitely had a great time getting spoiled and convincing Dave to pick her up at every turn. She actually had such a great time with "Uncle Dave" and "Aunt Jill" that she was absolutely hysterical when we dropped them off at the airport this morning. She kept calling for them saying, "My Dave! My Jill!". I would say then that they definitely won her over and we can't wait to have them back.

Worker's Comp.

I went to the Dr.'s this morning and I got the all clear. My little angel did not break my nose, instead she may have just temporarily damaged the cartilidge and it will heal itself. So that was good news! After the Dr.'s we went to the store with an especially cranky Caroline that kept crying to get out of her stroller. Just as I was about to pay the cashier, Caroline leans forward from her stroller and chomped down on the back of my leg!! I swear, what has gotten into this child?? I quickly grabbed her out of the stroller, in the middle of paying, held her up to me at eye level, and told her that "WE" do not bite! I put her right back in her stroller (as she is laughing), finished paying and went right to the car. Halfway to the car, she started spitting on her stroller and when I ignored it and put her in her carseat, she spit on me and started laughing again! At that point she was promptly taken out of her carseat, placed on the ground and had her bottom swatted for the first time. She looked at me with huge eyes and said "I sorry Mommy. No bite. No spit." Now I'm going to find myself on the 6 o'clock news b/c of some hidden camera in the Kohl's parking lot! What a morning! I told Brett I wanted to know who to contact for Worker's Comp. this week!

History Repeats Itself

Yesterday Becca came over with Brady and "Baby Cate" (as Caroline calls her) for coffee and a playdate. Caroline just adores Brady who is 3 1/2. She follows him all over the house and immitates every thing that he does. He is so sweet with her and so patient that they actually play really well together. Right before Becca was about to leave, Caroline was sitting on my lap and kept asking me to turn on the TV for her. I told her that I wouldn't turn it on then and she was NOT happy. She planted her feet down on the couch on front of me and threw her head backwards as she started crying, smacking her head right into the bridge of my nose! Becca couldn't believe the sound it made and I was pretty sure right away that it was broken. It didn't seem to bother Caroline at all. As a matter of fact, I don't even think that she noticed. She was still mad that I wouldn't turn on the TV! Anyway, I have a Dr.'s appt. this morning for it to get checked out, so I'll keep you all posted. Funny how history repeats itself. When I was six, I told my mom to hold my hands hands while I somersaulted over and my foot hit her in the nose and broke it!

Mr. Rojo

I forgot to report that we got a new fish! This time it's a Beta fish and hopefully he will be a little more resilient. He is a really pretty purple/reddish color. Brett has named the fish "Mr. Rojo". He keeps trying to teach Caroline Spanish words here and there, but I think it's more to improve his own Spanish vocabulary! Hopefully we won't have much to report on Mr. Rojo and he will live a long, uneventful live in our kitchen!

Nana and Papa's Arrival

Nana and Papa (Brett's parents) are here for a visit. They came in on Wed. with a very excited Caroline waiting for them. When they got out of the car, Caroline ran out the front door right calling, "Nana! Papa!" and immediately was picked up for big hugs. It was so cute. Brett's dad asked Caroline if she had been practicing that (which we hadn't) and she replied, "Yeah".
We all took her to the zoo yesterday and she loved it. She loved the monkeys the best, I think, although she seemed pretty enthralled with the baby elephant, too. We all rode the train before we went in and found a seat towards the back so we didn't smell like train fumes all day (Thanks, Michelle, for all the zoo tips!). We came back home just in time for nap and Caroline slept for 2 hours and 45 minutes before I had Nana wake her up! I think we'll need to go to the zoo more often!

On Friday we went to Market Street to walk around. Caroline did not want to be there and cried up until the point when I stripped off her dress and she ran around in the fountains in her T-shirt and training pants with the other little kids. She had a ball and could not get enough of the water. I'll have to make a point to bring her bathing suit next time! I'll post some video so you can all get a laugh.

18 Week Sonogram

We had our 18 week sonogram today! Even though we chose not to find out the sex of the baby, we were still very excited. Everything appeared to be doing just fine. The heartbeat was 143. According to the measurments the baby was at 17 weeks, 6 days when I am actually 18 weeks, 5 days, but we were told that this was just fine and that it did not affect my Oct. 16 due date at all. The baby was kicking a lot during the sonogram, but but we still got to see his/her cute little hands and feet and he/she was all snuggled up on his/her tummy with the knees feet curled up underneath! Very cute! I'll see if I can't scan a picture to try to post, so everyone can have a peek, too! I also got my quad blood screening results back on Tues. and everything came back normal. Everything is looking good. Only about 21 more weeks to go now until Caroline becomes a big sister!

Sick Day

Caroline is stuck home today sick. She started getting a fever yesterday afternoon and by about 4:45pm, it was up to 102.5. She was miserable. All she wanted to do was lay on the couch and listen to her "monkey"song (The Jack Johnson & Friends CD from the Curious George Soundtrack). She couldn't get comfortable at all when it was time for bed and she didn't end up falling asleep until close to 9:00pm, when she usually is in bed by about 7:15pm. She woke up four times during the night and kept crying, "Ouchie, Mommy! Ouchie!". I called the pediatrician this morning and they were able to get her in at 8:45am. Of course, by then, she didn't have a fever anymore and was acting fine, but I figured with it being a Friday, I better go get her checked out anyway. It turns out it was a good idea, since she has strep throat. She should hopefully be better by tomorrow afternoon, now that she has already had her first dose of antibiotics. We have big plans for Mother's Day, so hopefully it will still work out and we'll all be able to have a good time!

Bouncy! Bouncy!

This morning we took Caroline to her friend, Roxy's, birthday party at a indoor play place that had all kinds of inflatable play equipment, like moonwalks, slides, and basketball courts. Caroline loved

it, laughing and screaming, "Bouncy! Bouncy" the whole time. She was there with all her buddies jumping to their hearts' content (There is video of Caroline and Amelia, a.k.a. "Mimi", going down the slide.). Caroline now knows, after about 3 birthday parties in one month, that the cake is the best thing at the party. When we had all the kids seated in the party room to eat some pizza, Caroline decided that she was holding out for the cake (Caroline is pretending to eat her pizza sitting next to her best buds Bryan and Amelia). Apparently the cake wasn't being delivered to her fast enough, because she kept repeating, "Candles! Candles! Eat cake!". Once she did get her cake, all she wanted was the frosting anyway. Hmmm...she must get her sweet tooth from her Daddy! Thanks for a great day, Roxy. We all had fun!

16 weeks, 3 days

I had my 16 week check-up this morning and everything is looking good. I have gained 5 lbs. so far. I'm not sure how much I had gained at this point with Caroline, though, b/c I'm still waiting for the OB's office to copy my records and give them back to me. I heard the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler and it was loud and strong. The heartbeat was in the high 140s-low 150s range. On May19, we will be going in for my 18 week ultrasound. Even though we are not going to be finding out the sex again, we are still very excited to how how the baby is doing. Here's a picture of me starting to "show", too.
